Microsoft believed to be working on an Android emulator
Jun 9, 2021 19:14 GMT  ·  By Bogdan Popa            Back in the days when Windows 10 Mobile was still a thing, Microsoft was silently working on a project which many believed could save the platform from its approaching demise.

It was supposed for Android apps, a thing that would have resolved the lack of apps on Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile and which at some point even made its way to preview builds of the smartphone operating system.

Everybody knows what happened with Windows 10 Mobile, but Microsoft apparently hasn’t given up on plans to bring Android to the world of Windows.

And now, according to a recent report from MSPU, there’s a chance Microsoft could end up bringing Android apps to the next-generation Windows, which so many people are already referring to as Windows 11.

More info on June 24
Recent evidence found on GitHub seems to suggest that Microsoft may be working on an Android emulator for Windows, which in turn is believed to be an indication that a future Windows version could indeed be able to run Android apps.

As it turns out, the whole thing would be possible via the Windows Subsystem for Linux, though at this point, it’s not yet known if Microsoft can get the feature ready in time for the debut of Windows 11.

Microsoft will be holding a dedicated Windows event on June 24, and one of the big announcements at the show could be the name of the next operating system. While everybody expected the fall of 2021 update to land as Windows 10 version 21H2, there’s a chance Microsoft ends up calling it Windows 11, with CEO Satya Nadella himself promising a release that would blow everybody’s minds.

For now, however, everything is still in the speculation stage, so we should take everything with a pinch of salt, especially this Android app support that so many people still seem to be dreaming about.
