The Dell XPS 17 redefines the 17-inch laptop

After years of lying dormant, the Dell XPS 17 is back in a big way. Dell’s biggest new laptop is also actually small for its form factor — offering workstation-grade power in a chassis that's comparable to many 15-inch notebooks. And thanks to its massive 4-sided Infinity Edge display, the XPS 17 offers one of the largest and most immersive screens you can find on a laptop.

The XPS 17 stands out from its smaller siblings with more powerful graphics options that are ideal for content creators and gamers. It also lasts impressively long on a charge for a 4K laptop, and offers booming speakers to boot. While it can get quite pricey once you start tricking it out, the XPS 17 is one of the best laptops to buy if you want beastly performance and a huge, gorgeous display within a true beauty of a design.

Frustratingly, the XPS 17 is still using 10th Gen Intel processors — which means we're still waiting on Tiger Lake CPUs to make it to the biggest XPS laptop. Read on for our full Dell XPS 17 review.

Dell XPS 17: Price and availability

The Dell XPS 17's Core i5 version has a list price that's barely under $1,400, and it's currently marked down to $1,273. This Core i5-10300H/8GB/256GB SSD configuration is as cheap as it gets.

2060 Max-Q while doubling the RAM and storage to 16GB and 1TB respectively. We reviewed a tricked-out $2,999 (but $2,351 right now) XPS 17, which packs a Core i7-10875H CPU, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and RTX 2060 graphics.

If you still need more RAM or storage, you can upgrade to 64GB of RAM and 2TB of storage for an extra $294 for each add-on.

The Dell XPS 17 came out in summer 2020, and as of this writing, the latest Dell XPS 17 doesn't yet have support for the latest 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake processors, which offer bumps in performance and efficiency.

Dell isn't ignoring these new chips, though. The Dell XPS 13 and Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 got Tiger Lake refreshes, so it's possible that the new CPUs could come to Dell's biggest mainstream laptop soon.

Dell XPS 17: Design

With a razor-sharp construction that borrows the design of its smaller XPS 13 and XPS 15 siblings, the Dell XPS 17 is one of the most elegant 17-inch laptops I’ve laid my eyes on.
