https://www.kaspersky.com/about/press-re...al-courses Kaspersky Automated Security Awareness Platform expands with three new highly topical courses
January 14, 2025
Kaspersky is pleased to announce the launch of three new courses within its leading Kaspersky Automated Security Awareness Platform to help organizations counter specific and increasingly prevalent cyberthreats.
Cyberattacks targeting healthcare organizations, supply chains and high-levels executives are on the rise. The Kaspersky IT Security Economics report reveals that supply chain resilience has emerged as a significant focus for IT security teams, with more and more businesses recognizing the need for greater oversight and control over their suppliers. Meanwhile, healthcare organizations suffer an average of 18 incidents per year, putting critical data and patients at risk. The three new Kaspersky ASAP courses directly address these threats.
Designed for healthcare professionals, “Information security in healthcare” addresses the unique cybersecurity challenges faced by the medical industry. It covers information security principles, the rights and responsibilities of those handling medical information, and advanced guidance on secure data storage, transmission, and disposal. Participants will also gain insight into key legal regulations governing healthcare cybersecurity, ensuring they can protect sensitive systems and even save lives through secure practices.
The “Supply chain attacks” course explores a growing threat where cybercriminals exploit vulnerabilities in external vendors and partners. Participants will learn how attackers embed malicious code into trusted software or compromise contractor systems, bypassing internal protections. The course provides strategies for identifying supplier risks, monitoring practices, and implementing safeguards to secure interconnected systems.
“Attacks on top managers and on behalf of top managers: whaling and its impact” explores whaling attacks, a sophisticated form of phishing targeting top-level executives. Participants will learn how attackers exploit executive authority and impersonate leaders to deceive employees, gaining access to sensitive information or financial assets. The course equips executives to protect themselves and trains employees to identify “fake manager” scams, reducing the risk of fraud and data breaches.
“Cyberthreats are evolving, and organizations must stay ahead by empowering employees with the right knowledge and tools,” says Tatyana Shumaylova, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Kaspersky. “These courses tackle critical issues – from protecting executives against whaling to securing healthcare operations and defending against supply chain attacks – helping organizations build resilience in a complex digital landscape.”
https://www.kaspersky.com/about/press-re...thy-ai-use Kaspersky signs European Commission’s AI Pact to foster trustworthy AI use
January 13, 2025
Advocating for the secure use of AI technologies, Kaspersky has signed the AI Pact, a European Commission initiative that aims to prepare organizations for the implementation of the AI Act – the first ever comprehensive legal framework on AI worldwide, adopted by the European Union (EU). The pledge signing reflects Kaspersky’s wider commitment to promote and facilitate the prudent and responsible use of AI technologies, recognizing the importance of this stance within the cybersecurity field.
The EU AI Act seeks to encourage trustworthy AI in the European region and beyond by ensuring that AI technologies comply with safety and ethical principles and by addressing AI-associated risks. Enacted in 2024, the AI Act is set to become fully applicable[1] in mid-2026. The AI Pact aims to facilitate transition to the new regulation by inviting organizations to proactively work on implementing AI Act key provisions.
By signing the pledge, Kaspersky has taken on three core commitments relating to AI technology use, namely to:
adopt an AI governance strategy to foster the uptake of AI in the company and work towards future compliance with the AI Act;
carry out a mapping of AI systems provided or deployed in areas that would be considered high-risk under the AI Act;
promote awareness and AI literacy of the company’s staff and other persons dealing with AI systems on their behalf, considering their technical knowledge, experience, education and training and the context the AI systems are to be used in.
In addition to core commitments, Kaspersky has vowed to conduct the profiling of foreseeable risks to rights of persons that might be affected through the use of AI systems, ensure that individuals are informed, when they are directly interacting with an AI system, and inform employees about the deployment of AI systems at the workplace.
"As we witness the rapid deployment of AI technologies, it's crucial to ensure that the drive for innovation is balanced with proper risk management," comments Eugene Kaspersky, founder and CEO of Kaspersky. "Having been an advocate for AI literacy and the sharing of knowledge about AI-related risks and threats for years, we're happy to join the ranks of organizations working to help companies responsibly and securely benefit from AI technologies. We'll be working to further advance transparent and ethical AI practices and contribute to building confidence in this technology."
Kaspersky has a vast experience of employing AI technologies in its protection technologies. For close to 20 years, the company has used AI-powered automation to enhance the security and privacy of its customers, and detect the widest range of cyberthreats. With AI systems becoming increasingly prevalent, Kaspersky is committed to sharing the expertise accumulated in its AI Technology Research Center to ensure that organizations are well-positioned to tackle risks that come with AI system deployment.
To assist practitioners in implementing AI systems and equip them with specific recommendations on how to deploy AI securely, Kaspersky experts have developed “Guidelines for Secure Development and Deployment of AI Systems,” which were presented during the 2024 UN Internet Governance Forum. In addition to security considerations, Kaspersky emphasizes the ethical use of AI technologies and has formulated principles of ethical use of AI systems in cybersecurity, inviting other cybersecurity providers to join and follow these principles.

Kaspersky continues to set the benchmark for excellence in cybersecurity
Says its products achieved unparalleled success in SE Labs’ rigorous testing
Across all four quarters, they earned a perfect 100% Total Accuracy Rating
Kaspersky Managing Director of Asia Pacific Adrian Hia
Kaspersky Head of Threat Research Alexander Liskin
SE Labs Founder and CEO Simon Edwards
Kaspersky said recently its products have once again earned the highest scores in independent testing throughout 2024.
In rigorous evaluations conducted by prestigious cybersecurity testing organisations, Kaspersky Plus (starting in Q4 2024, Kaspersky Premium), Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business (KESB), and Kaspersky Small Office Security (KSOS) achieved the highest Total Accuracy Rating (TAR) scores across all four quarters of the year. They received the maximum available points: 1140 in Q1-Q3, and 1144 in Q4, corresponding to 100% in percentage terms.
In the Consumer segment, Kaspersky Plus demonstrated unmatched precision and effectiveness, sharing the spotlight with just one of the competitor’s products. In the Enterprise and Small Office segments, Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business and Kaspersky Small Office Security stood out as the sole leaders, with no competitors matching their flawless TAR scores throughout the entire test cycle that year.
In 2024, the Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows application, already a standout performer in SE Labs tests, became an integral part of the Kaspersky Next product line. This milestone marks the extension of Kaspersky’s proven success through to its next-generation solutions, ensuring that the high standards and exceptional performance demonstrated by KES for Windows now reinforce the advanced capabilities of Kaspersky Next. This integration solidifies Kaspersky Next as a comprehensive security offering, delivering the same unparalleled accuracy and reliability to meet evolving cybersecurity challenges.
Kaspersky has a longstanding history of exceptional performance, as demonstrated by results over the past several years. In 2023, Kaspersky Plus achieved the highest Total Accuracy Rating scores across all four quarters – a result unmatched by any other product in its category. Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business and Kaspersky Small Office Security ranked first in three quarters (Q1, Q3, and Q4), earning the highest number of points in each of those quarters, confirming their reputation as industry leaders.
In the previous year, 2022, Kaspersky Internet Security showcased its robust capabilities by securing the top TAR scores in three quarters (Q1, Q2, and Q4) within the Consumer category. Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business and Kaspersky Small Office Security further enhanced Kaspersky’s legacy, securing the highest TAR scores for three quarters of the year and ranking within the top three in Q3.
This consistent track record underscores Kaspersky’s ability to deliver superior protection year after year, across both the consumer and enterprise segments. The company’s solutions continue to set the standard for precision and reliability in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape, instilling confidence in users amid growing cyberthreats.
Kaspersky Managing Director of Asia Pacific Adrian Hia said: “Achieving top performances across all four quarters of 2024 is a significant milestone reflecting Kaspersky’s commitment to bringing the best, most innovative cybersecurity solutions to our customers. As threats in cyberspace continue to evolve, this recognition continues to ensure that our technologies are reliable and precise to protect users and businesses around the world. We are immensely grateful for the belief that customers and partners have placed upon us, and we continue to drive further innovation in cybersecurity to help protect what matters.”
Kaspersky Head of Threat Research Alexander Liskin said: “Kaspersky’s consistent leadership in scores reflects our relentless dedication to advancing cybersecurity for our customers. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of our solutions across diverse use cases, from personal devices to enterprise-level security, against the most sophisticated cyberthreats, ensuring unparalleled safety for users worldwide. We thank SE Labs for leading-edge, realistic testing challenges of security products that give us the opportunity to continuously monitor and improve the efficiency of our technologies and once again reaffirm our commitment to providing best-in-class cybersecurity solutions for consumers and businesses.”
SE Labs Founder and CEO Simon Edwards said: “Kaspersky consistently demonstrates excellence in our assessments, showcasing its dedication to maintaining top-tier cyber security standards. Its continuous participation underlines the company’s commitment to delivering reliable protection across diverse environments. SE Labs views Kaspersky at the forefront of cyber security innovation, providing users with the highest level of protection against evolving threats with precision, reliability, and a focus on continuous improvement.” https://opentip.kaspersky.com/https%3A%2...tab=lookup Report

December 27, 2024 The outgoing 2024 brought a number of record-breaking data breaches — from the Taylor Swift concert ticket case, to the incident with 100 million Americans’ medical records. AI technology and cybercrime made leaps and bounds all year long. So how can you stay on top of all this to ensure personal information security? Here’s how: make these seven New Year resolutions — and stick to them throughout 2025.
1. Learn to use AI assistants securely
Over the past year, the use of AI has evolved from a trending novelty to a part of life — especially after AI assistants became smartphone features. Given that AI is now literally in the palm of your hand — offering at times quite personal advice — it’s worth getting to grips with the rules for safe chatbot use to keep yourself and others out of harm’s way. Here they are in a nutshell:
Double-check AI advice — especially when asking for information about medicines, investments, or other queries where errors are costly. Chatbots are known to “hallucinate”, so never blindly follow their tips.
Disable AI features unless you know what they’re for. The “smart” craze is driving companies to integrate AI even where it’s not needed. The most striking example is the rollout of the controversial Recall feature in Windows 11, where it continuously captures screenshots for AI analysis. Disable AI if you’re not actively using it.
Never give personal information to AI. Photos of documents, passport details, financial and medical information are almost never needed for AI to function correctly. Given that such data may get stored for a long time and used for AI training — and thus be more likely to leak — it’s better not to upload such data in the first place.
Don’t chat with family and friends through AI. Such automation is rarely useful and won’t help maintain closeness.
2. Switch to passkeys instead of passwords
Tech majors are gradually ditching passwords for more reliable passkeys; for example, Microsoft plans to move a billion users over to this new technology. With it, logging in to any site will be by means of biometric verification or PIN code. The check is carried out locally on your computer or smartphone, after which the device decrypts from its storage a unique cryptographic key for the website in question, which “recognizes” you by this key. In some services, “Passkey” is the actual name of the login method; others, like Microsoft, mention “Face, Fingerprint, or PIN”. Whatever name it goes by, the method is more reliable than a combination of a password and one-time code — as well as easier and faster to use. If passkeys are on offer — get them!
3. Find and change all old passwords
Despite the advent of passkeys, passwords will remain with us for many years to come, and that means lots more leaks and hacks. Old passwords that you created years ago with little thought to length or strength can be brute-forced without too much trouble. For example, this year saw the biggest password leak in history. Dubbed RockYou2024, it contained 10 billion (!) unique records. Many of them are encrypted, but modern video cards can be used to crack shorter passwords. In our study of password strength, it turned out that six out of ten user passwords found in this leak could be broken in a few seconds to one hour.
To thwart password crackers, go through all your passwords and reset any that are short (fewer than 12 characters) or very old, and create new ones in accordance with best security practices. As you know, passwords should never be reused, so it’s best to generate new ones and store them in a reliable password manager.
4. Teach family and friends how to spot deepfakes
The rapid advance of neural networks has allowed scammers to move from deepfake videos of celebrities, to inexpensive and relatively massive attacks on specific individuals using fake voices and images of… absolutely anyone. Deepfakes were first used to promote financial pyramids or fake charities, but now targeted scams are in play; for example, calls from the victim’s “boss” or a “loved one”. It’s now easier than ever to make a video of someone you know well asking for money or something else, so always double-check unusual requests by making contact with the person through another channel.
Given the vast leakage of medical records in 2024, we can expect to see new targeted “doctor scams” in the coming year.
5. Switch to private messengers
For those who still believe in privacy, 2024 delivered a couple of major setbacks. First, the arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov raised fears that intelligence agencies could start snooping on users’ correspondence. Next, the United States was rocked by scandal when it broke that foreign intelligence agencies had hacked the legal wiretapping system operated by all U.S. telecom providers, and gained access to the calls and texts of Americans. The authorities went so far as to advise people to switch to private messengers for greater privacy.
To sleep more soundly at night, follow this tip and, together with your main contacts, move to a messenger with end-to-end encryption.
6. Set aside a monthly “backup hour” in your calendars
If you don’t even remember when you last backed up your data, it’s time to schedule this activity — which is no less important than annual car maintenance or spring cleaning your house; however, backups should be much more frequent: daily, weekly or monthly — depending on the data type.
Backup must be two-way: back up data on your phone and computer to cloud storage, and download cloud data to local storage. An example of the former is photos on your phone. An example of the latter is Gmail messages.
This way, you’ll be protected against a wide range of problems: computer crashes, smartphone theft, ransomware attacks, house fires, your favorite recipe site being shut down, movies and music disappearing from streaming platforms, sudden hikes in cloud-hosting charges, and so on. For best practices for backing up from the cloud, see our post here; and to the cloud, see here. Another of our guides explains how to save important online data stress-free, so you don’t have to worry about your favorite sites or services disappearing. And under the backup tag on our blog, you’ll find no end of practical tips on saving data from anywhere, including messengers, authenticator apps, and note-taking tools.
7. Enter your card number less often
In 2024, cloud storage provider Snowflake suffered a string of massive leaks of customer data. Among the companies affected were AT&T, Live Nation (Ticketmaster), and Santander. The exact makeup of the information in each leak remains unclear.
So as not to be left guessing if your payment data is safe, and not to mess around with contacting banks and reissuing cards after every major leak, save your card to a reputable, secure service (PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or similar), and use it to pay for purchases wherever possible. That goes for both offline and online purchases. This will make it harder for attackers to intercept your payment data and reduce the likelihood of damage in the event of a large store or online service hack.
If you need to enter card details but your preferred payment service isn’t an option, use the Safe Money feature in any of our home security solutions. https://opentip.kaspersky.com/https%3A%2...tab=lookup Report

CareUEyes Pro [Blue light filter software]Christmas 30% OFF
Pricing in image at bottom of page.
Whats is blue light?
Experts think digital eyestrain, or computer vision syndrome, affects about 50% of computer users. Symptoms include dry, irritated eyes and blurred vision.
Blue light may also damage your retinas. That’s called phototoxicity. The amount of damage depends on wavelength and exposure time. Animal studies show even short exposure (a few minutes to several hours) may be harmful. A filter that cuts 94% of blue light has been shown to lessen damage.
There’s evidence blue light could lead to permanent vision changes. Almost all blue light passes straight through to the back of your retina. Some research has shown blue light may increase the risk of macular degeneration, a disease of the retina.
Research shows blue light exposure may lead to age-related macular degeneration, or AMD. One study found blue light triggered the release of toxic molecules in photoreceptor cells. This causes damage that may lead to AMD.
Blue Light and Sleep
Screen time, especially at night, is linked to poor sleep. The blue light from electronic devices messes with your circadian rhythm, or sleep cycle. It signals your brain to wake up when it should be winding down. In one study, as little as 2 hours of exposure to blue light at night slowed or stopped release of the sleep hormone melatonin. Powering down your digital devices at least 3 hours before bedtime can help.

US authorities and companies continue to use security software from the Russian manufacturer Kaspersky even after the ban came into force. A current analysis shows remarkable trends in global use.
According to a new study by security firm Bitsight, around 40 percent of US organizations that were using Kaspersky products before the deadline of 29 September 2024 are still using them – including 19 government institutions. The findings are based on the observation of connections between global IP addresses and Kaspersky update servers.
The analysts emphasize that these findings highlight the need for more effective measures to monitor the use of technology within national borders. This is particularly relevant in light of growing concerns about supply chain security and the trustworthiness of technology providers.
Significant decline worldwide
Despite continued use in the US, the study shows a significant impact of the ban on the global use of Kaspersky products. While Bitsight still registered communication from almost 22,000 organizations and over seven million individual IP addresses with Kaspersky servers in April 2024, this number had fallen to around 8,000 organizations and two million IP addresses by the end of November – a decrease of around two thirds.
Interestingly, the decline was even more pronounced in countries without an explicit ban: Germany saw a 69% decrease, the UK a 70% decrease and Italy a 65% decrease – compared to 58% in the US.
Background
On June 20, 2024, the US Department of Commerce issued a final order prohibiting Kaspersky’s US subsidiary from providing any products and services in the United States. This was based on suspected links to the Russian regime, which the US authorities consider to pose a risk to national security.
Kaspersky rejected the accusations of influence by the Kremlin and initially announced that it would take legal action. In July 2024, however, the Moscow-based company announced that it would cease its business activities in the USA.
The results of the Bitsight analysis now raise the question of how effectively such technology policy measures can be implemented in practice and what challenges exist in terms of enforcement. Website status:
(MENAFN- Bashir Mraish Consultancy) Lazarus’ key operation – “Operation DreamJob” – continues to evolve with new sophisticated tactics that have persisted for more than five years, according to Kaspersky's Global Research and Analysis Team (GReAT). The latest targets include employees from a nuclear-related organization, who were infected via three compromised archive files appearing to be skill assessment tests for IT professionals. This ongoing campaign leverages a range of advanced malware, including a newly discovered modular backdoor, CookiePlus, that was disguised as open-source plugin.
Kaspersky’s GReAT discovered a new campaign linked to the infamous Operation DreamJob, also known as DeathNote, a cluster associated with the notorious Lazarus group. Over the years, this campaign has evolved significantly, initially emerging in 2019, with attacks targeting worldwide cryptocurrency-related businesses. During 2024, it has expanded to target IT and defense companies across Europe, Latin America, South Korea, and Africa. Kaspersky’s latest report provides new insights into a recent phase of their activity, revealing campaign targeting employees working at the same nuclear-related organization in Brazil as well employees of an unidentified sector in Vietnam.
Over the span of one month, at least two employees from the same organization were targeted by Lazarus, receiving multiple archive files disguised as skill assessments for IT positions at prominent aerospace and defense companies. Lazarus initially delivered the first archive to Hosts A and B within the same organization, and after a month, attempted more aggressive attacks on the first target. They likely used job search platforms like LinkedIn to deliver the initial instructions and gain access to the targets.
Lazarus has evolved its delivery methods and improved persistence through a complex infection chain involving various types of malware, such as a downloader, loader, and backdoor. They launched a multi-stage attack using trojanized VNC software, a remote desktop viewer for Windows, and another legitimate VNC tool to deliver malware. The first stage involved a trojanized AmazonVNC.exe, which decrypted and executed a downloader called Ranid Downloader to extract internal resources of the VNC executable. A second archive contained a malicious vnclang.dll that loaded MISTPEN malware, which then fetched additional payloads, including RollMid and a new variant of LPEClient.
Route of malicious files created on victims host
Additionally, they deployed an unseen plugin-based backdoor which GReAT experts dubbed CookiePlus. It was disguised as ComparePlus, an open-source Notepad++ plugin. Once established, the malware collects system data, including the computer name, process ID, and file paths, and makes its main module “sleep” for a set amount of time. It also adjusts its execution schedule by modifying a configuration file.
“There are substantial risks including data theft, as Operation DreamJob gathers sensitive system information that could be used for identity theft or espionage. The malware’s ability to delay its actions allows it to evade detection at the moment of penetration and persist longer on the system. By setting specific execution times, it can operate at intervals that might avoid being noticed. Additionally, the malware could manipulate system processes, making it harder to detect and potentially leading to further harm or exploitation of the system,” comments Sojun Ryu, security expert at Kaspersky’s Global Research and Analysis Team.

https://cybernews.com/news/texas-univers...rs-breach/ Texas university suffers breach, thousands affected
Updated on: December 24, 2024 1:10 PM
Justinas Vainilavičius
Senior Journalist The personal information of nearly 18,000 individuals was exposed in a breach targeting McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.
The incident came to the university’s attention on June 20th this summer, when it said it became aware of “suspicious activity” involving its network.
The subsequent investigation determined that an unknown actor accessed some of McMurry’s systems and copied certain files between June 18th and June 20th.
“As a result, McMurry conducted a detailed review of the affected files to determine the types of information present and to whom the information relates,” the private school said in a notice letter to those who had been affected.
It took nearly five months for McMurry to complete its analysis of the data, which it finished on November 15th. It concluded that the information that may have fallen to the wrong hands included names and social security numbers.
In addition to providing credit monitoring services to individuals whose personal information was potentially affected by the incident, the university said it was also working to implement additional safeguards and training to its employees. Academic institutions are frequent targets of malicious actors, as they handle large amounts of personal and highly valuable information regarding faculty and students. Breaches in recent years include an attack on Carnegie Mellon University and on Indiana University that exposed 250,000 user records.
Earlier this year, it was also reported that data linked to several top schools, including Princeton University, Stanford University, the University of Chicago, and Duke University was being sold on the dark web.
