I'm Tim, welcome to my little corner of GitHub. I'm glad that you stopped by.
I'm a retired mainframe system administrator. I did that for 25 years and now I like to build Windows applications for fun. I like to challenge myself to learn something new.
I build apps for myself. If I see a need, a problem to solve, or have an idea of how to make something easier, I challenge myself to build an app to satisfy the need or fix the problem. I publish some of the ones that work here on GitHub in hopes that someone might find them useful.
There are no guarantees that anything you find here will work in your environment. I'll try to offer support where I can. Although there is no promise that I will agree, I will read any requests for enhancements. I'll do that until it's no longer fun or it feels like a job.

Shows internal and external IP addresses.
Shows geolocation data for the external IP address.
Shows all internal IP addresses if there are more than one.
Optionally write external IP information to a log file.
Opens the default browser showing a map with the latitude and longitude found in the geolocation information.
Choose between Google Maps, Bing Maps, or LatLong.net to display map.
Optionally shows IPv6 addresses for internal addresses.
Copy data to the clipboard in tab delimited format. Perfect for pasting into Excel.
Save data to a tab delimited text file.
Select light or dark, or darker theme and one of 20 accent colors.
Minimize to tray.
Customize the details shown in the tray icon tooltip.
Download Get My IP
You can download the latest release from the releases page. Note that a "portable" release (the one with "NonInstall.zip" in the file name) is provided as well as the traditional installer.

0.9.7 - Mostly bug fixes with some new options Latest
This update includes new options and fixes some bugs ???
Apart from bug fixes and translation updates, I expect the pace of updates to Get My IP to slow down as I turn my attention to projects that have been neglected for too long. When I return to Get My IP in 2024, I will be upgrading it to .NET 8, which was released earlier this month and is the next LTS version of .NET.
Changes:
Fixed: Settings will now be saved every time a user navigates away from the Settings page. Settings were saved at shutdown, but this can be an issue with a long running application.
Fixed: If a newer version of Get My IP is found when checking for an updated release from the About page, clicking OK in the resulting message box will now close Get My IP after navigating to the GitHub Releases page.
Fixed: Only one Instance of Get My IP will be allowed to run at a time. This fixes the scenario described in Issue #51. Logging to a permanent log file is exempted from the only one instance rule.
Fixed: Logging to a permanent log file was broken in d1e9f05. It now works correctly.
Fixed: The list of translation contributors on the about page is now aligned correctly. This didn't cause any harm, it just bugged me.
New: Added Free IP API as an IP information provider. It's good to have options.
New: The list of IP information providers used by Get My IP is now available at the bottom of the about page.
New: An option to show external IP type (IPv4 or IPv6) in the tray icon tooltip has been added.
