Microsoft patent envisions a new foldable mouse
Nov 8, 2021 09:18 GMT  ·  By Bogdan Popa  ·      Microsoft is truly committed to PCs, laptops, 2-in-1s, and a series of accessories, so naturally, the company is continuously looking into ways to remain as innovative as possible and bring new models to the market.

This is why the software giant is currently considering a fully foldable mouse, as revealed in a patent recently spotted by German site WindowsUnited.

Just like a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, Microsoft’s proposed mouse design allows the device fold flat, which in theory could even allow it to double as a trackpad if needed.

But of course, the main benefit is that it becomes a lot easier to carry around, especially in a backpack, all without any risk of damages.

Microsoft obviously tight-lipped on the patent
“A foldable computer mouse is provided that includes a deformable body configurable to be formed into a first expanded configuration usable for receiving inputs for controlling a computing device and a second folded configuration in which a first portion of the deformable body is folded over a second portion of the deformable body,” Microsoft explains in the description of the patent.

“A collapsible computer mouse is provided that includes a deformable body that can be configured to be in a first deployed configuration that can be used to receive input for controlling a computing device, and a second folded configuration that includes a first Part of the deformable body is folded over a second part of the deformable body can be shaped.”

Whether or not Microsoft will end up releasing such a mouse is something that remains to be seen, but at first glance, this is a direction that makes sense not only for the software giant itself but also for other companies.

Of course, Microsoft hasn’t said a single thing about its plans to launch a foldable PC mouse, so for now, it’s just a patent and nothing more.
