Here’s How the First iPhone with a USB-C Port Came to Be
This iPhone X was hacked to get a USB-C port
Nov 2, 2021 16:41 GMT  ·  By Bogdan Popa  ·      It’s pretty clear already that Apple has almost no intention to change the design of the iPhone in a way that would allow the company to replace its proprietary Lightning port with USB-C.

And while the whole world, especially the European Union, is insisting on this change, the Cupertino-based tech giant still seems to favor its Lightning port going forward.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean that USB-C can’t feel like home on an iPhone.

And robotics student Ken Pillonel has recently demonstrated this theory, as he managed to modify an iPhone X in such a way that it ended up featuring a USB-C port instead of Lightning.

A new video he published on YouTube shows how the whole thing came to be, and what’s more, it offers instructions on how someone else could do the same thing. It’s not easy, of course, but on the other hand, it can finally bring USB-C to an iPhone.
Listed for sale

The modded iPhone X is currently listed on eBay, so if you want an Apple smartphone with USB-C, this is your chance to get it without having to struggle with the aforementioned instructional video.

But at first glance, there’s a huge demand for such a device, as the bidding has already reached $3,000, and most likely, the USB-C iPhone would end up selling for much more.

Worth knowing, however, is that you won’t be able to use this hacked iPhone as you do with your current iPhone. This is because you shouldn’t update or erase the device, as any software changes on the smartphone could end up breaking down the USB-C port.

At the same time, you can’t open it up to see what’s under the hood, so it’s more of a prototype that you should just keep because it’s the first iPhone in the world with USB-C.
