Apple’s Upcoming 27-Inch iMac Pro Could Come with Face ID
The device is projected to launch next year
Nov 2, 2021 16:34 GMT  ·  By Bogdan Popa  ·

Apple is working on several new devices, and one of them is a new 27-inch iMac Pro that could see the daylight in the first half of 2022.

And according to Apple tipster @dylandkt, the new iMac Pro will feature a massive hardware upgrade, starting with the processor.

The device will be equipped with M1 Pro and M1X chips, and the base version will sport no less than 16GB of RAM. Furthermore, the standard configuration will feature 512GB of storage, though it goes without saying several other options will be available in terms of both RAM and storage.

While it’s not yet known if a notch could make its way to the device, the tipster says dark bezels will be offered anyway.

What’s interesting is that Apple already tested Face ID on this device, but at this point, it’s not clear if the facial recognition system makes its way to the new iMac or not.
Face ID still uncertain

Earlier this fall, Apple announced the new MacBook Pro with a touch, but surprisingly, Face ID was not included. The Cupertino-based tech giant says it wanted to stick with Touch ID because the hands are already on the keyboard, so having a fingerprint scanned is much more convenient.

It remains to be seen, however, if Apple wants to bring Face ID to the iMac Pro at launch.

The device will also sport HDMI support, USB-C connectors, and an SD card slot, according to the tipster.

Needless to say, this new iMac Pro wouldn’t come cheap, and this makes perfect sense given the hardware under the hood. The most affordable configuration will be available from approximately $2,000, but it goes without saying the better the hardware, the higher the price. So eventually, don’t be surprised if the top-of-the-range configuration costs twice more than the standard version.
