Microsoft Fixes Black Search Bug on Windows 11
The fix is part of the latest preview build for Dev users
Oct 21, 2021 17:36 GMT  ·  By Bogdan Popa

Microsoft has recently released a new Windows 11 preview build for insiders, and one notable fix concerns the search feature available on the OS and integrated into the taskbar.

Some insiders have previously encountered an unexpected problem when trying to use the search feature, as the menu only appeared fully black and didn’t display any content.

And according to Microsoft, the bug is gone in Windows 11 build 22483, so in theory, you should be able to search just fine in the operating system after installing this latest build.
More bug fixes

At the same time, Microsoft says it has also refined the search in settings screen, so now if you search for “display,” you should be able to see the display settings, as expected.

There are also fixes for WSL and the NTFS implementation on Windows 11, Microsoft explains.

“Trying to access the Linux entry for WSL in File Explorer’s navigation pane should no longer pop up an error saying “wsl.localhost is unavailable, insufficient resources exist” on ARM64 PCs. Addressed an issue with NTFS when the USN journal was enabled, where it was doing extra unnecessary action with each write, impacting I/O performance. Webview2 processes should now be properly grouped with the application using it in Task Manager’s Processes tab,” Microsoft explained.

Keep in mind, however, that these bug fixes and improvements are currently available only for insiders in the Dev channel, so it remains to be seen when exactly they could be released to production devices out there.

Worth knowing is that Windows 11 isn’t yet available for everybody, as Microsoft used a release in stages to make sure it detects possible bugs early. However, if you want to upgrade your device without waiting, you can just download the Media Creation Tool and move to Windows 11 manually.
