The price increase concern commercial and business users
Aug 20, 2021 12:20 GMT  ·  By Bogdan Popa  ·      Microsoft has announced a price increase for the commercial and business versions of Microsoft 365 and Office 365, with the company emphasizing that no change is taking place for education and consumers.

The new prices, however, will also go into effect in six months, and Microsoft says they will apply not only in the United States, but also all over the world, with the obvious adjustments depending on each region.

Worth knowing, however, is this is the first time in 10 years (since the debut of Office 365) when Microsoft actually increases the price of the productivity suite.

“We are announcing changes to our commercial pricing for Microsoft 365—the first substantive pricing update since we launched Office 365 a decade ago. This updated pricing reflects the increased value we have delivered to our customers over the past 10 years,” Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365, explains.

Price increase only aimed at commercial and business users
The following products are targeted by the announced price increase:

Microsoft 365 Business Basic (from $5 to $6 per user)
Microsoft 365 Business Premium (from $20 to $22)
Office 365 E1 (from $8 to $10)
Office 365 E3 (from $20 to $23)
Office 365 E5 (from $35 to $38)
Microsoft 365 E3 (from $32 to $36)
The adoption of Microsoft 365 services has skyrocketed since early 2020 due to the global health issue, with the entire world transitioning to remote working and embracing products that allowed them to remain productive even from the safety of their homes.

Microsoft too admitted platforms like Microsoft Teams recorded a massive boom in terms of adoption, and the company even turned to more aggressive optimizations to make sure all these services remain online for subscribers across the world, especially given the continuously growing number of active users in certain regions.
