Qualcomm Developing a Gaming Console Running Android
The device would run Android 12 and come with controllers

Qualcomm is ready to expand its hardware business into a completely new market, as the company is reportedly planning to launch an Android gaming console as soon as the next year.

At the first glance, Qualcomm wants to build a device similar to the Nintendo Switch, but on the other hand, Qualcomm hopes it can use its existing hardware, including the successor to the Snapdragon 888 chip, to offer a new gaming experience powered by Android.

Qualcomm is expected to equip its gaming console with a new processor that would also be positioned as the successor to the Snapdragon 888, so in theory, it could be announced at the end of the year.

But the most interesting part concerns the feature lineup.
Upcoming features

First and foremost, the device will come with a form factor that reminds of a typical phone, though the cited source explains Qualcomm could go for a bulkier approach because this is the only way to ensure proper cooling in a gaming device.

The company wants to fit it with an SD card for expanded storage, cellular support, Bluetooth, GPS, haptic feedback, and accelerometers. 5G support will almost certainly be offered, and Qualcomm is believed to be planning some partnership with carriers to offer cloud gaming.

The Android 12 experience would be further customized with a dedicated launcher, and the console would also support controller input, which according to the cited source would be developed by a third-party company.

No word has been said about the display, but a 6,000 mAh battery is expected to be offered, obviously with fast charge. At the first glance, Qualcomm doesn’t want its device to very expensive, so a $300 price tag is expected, though everything could change by the time a final decision on this project is made.
