Facebook Wreaks Havoc on iPhones, Breaks Down Thousands of High-Profile Apps

Quote:Facebook SDK causes continuous app crashes on iOS

The Facebook SDK is one again the culprit of a major issue happening on iPhones, as the social network’s software is causing thousands of apps to crash on launch.

More specifically, apps that come with the Facebook SDK built-in can no longer start, and these include high-profile names like Tinder, Waze, Spotify, Deezer, and others. All these apps typically use the Facebook software to allow users to log in with their accounts created to connect to the social network.

Facebook has already confirmed that it’s investigating, but for the time being, no fix seems to be doing the trick for everybody.

The apps are broken down regardless of the iPhone where they are installed. For example, they crash both on an iPhone 7 and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and as long as the Facebook SDK is used, there’s a good chance the glitches happen too.

Server-side fix
This is the second time the Facebook SDK generates such a massive blunder, as similar crashes were experienced in early May as well. At that point, the social network rolled out a fix pretty quickly, but at this point, it’s still not clear when the issue could be resolved.

Some say that the error is triggered when the apps try to connect to the Facebook SDK, so a potential solution could be just taking the device offline. If an Internet connection isn’t available, Facebook’s servers can be reached, therefore the apps could be used normally.

Of course, this isn’t a convenient solution for certain apps where an Internet connection is mandatory. This is the case of TikTok, for example, which cannot run without Internet access.

Hopefully, the issue would be resolved quickly, and what’s important to know is that a software update isn’t necessary. Facebook can fix this on its servers without requiring users to install any patch.
