Major new feature coming to all platforms

Call recording options are placed right in the main UI
Microsoft has just announced that it’s bringing call recording to Skype, with support to be offered to all platforms, including Windows 10.

In the blog post introducing the feature, Microsoft explains that call recording is available now as part of all of its clients, except for the one for Windows 10, which will be updated at a later time.

The call recording process is cloud-based, and Microsoft has tried to make using it as convenient as possible. As soon as it starts, all users in a conversation are notified that the call is being recorded.

The recording includes everything from the video to screen shared during the call, and Microsoft allows users to save and share the recorded call with any other user easily within the next 30 days.

How to use call recording
Microsoft has integrated call recording options right in the call screen, so you only have to tap the + sign and then click the option that reads Start recording.

A banner shows up on both desktop and mobile to let the other users know that the call is being recorded, and this is a neat privacy touch that is without a doubt necessary.

“After the call, the recording is finalized and then posted to your chat where it is available for 30 days. You and everyone on the call can save the recording locally or share the recording to your contacts any time during the 30 days,” Microsoft explains.

This new feature requires at least Skype version 8, so older clients won’t be able to use it. There’s still no ETA as to when the Windows 10 client could get call recording, but given that Microsoft is working on revamping this application, there’s a good chance it arrives as part of a major update rolling out to users in the coming weeks.
