GE replaces Microsoft products with Apple’s

Microsoft says it’s no longer investing in the consumer side of its mobile platform, and instead is maintaining it for enterprises, but as far as business users are concerned, that’s not going to work out.

After Delta Air Lines decided to abandon Windows devices, including Windows phones and Surface tablets, and replace them with iPhone and iPad, another giant does the same thing, betting all-in on Apple products.

General Electric (GE) has signed a partnership with Apple to bring its software called Predix to iPhone and iPad, thus starting the transition to iOS devices for its entire workforce.

Macs offered as a choice to customers
In a press release published recently, which you can read in full in the box after the jump, GE expresses its full commitment to Apple devices, pointing out they can boost productivity and communication between its employees. Paradoxically, these two are Microsoft’s key focuses these days, so seeing Apple securing one of the largest partners is definitely a big loss.

“The partnership between Apple and GE is providing developers with the tools to make their own powerful industrial IoT apps,” said John Flannery, Chairman and CEO, GE.

“Our customers increasingly need to arm their workforces through mobility. Working together, GE and Apple are giving industrial companies access to powerful apps that help them tap into the predictive data and analytics of Predix right on their iPhone or iPad.”

And in addition to iPhone and iPad, GM will also start offering Macs as a choice for its employees, as the company wants to embrace the entire Apple device ecosystem for as many workers as possible. At this point, GM’s workforce counts 330,000 employees.

Without a powerful mobile platform for enterprises, Microsoft appears to be losing several important customers, as the transition to Apple and its full device ecosystem seems to make more sense for a growing number of businesses.

Unfortunately for the Redmond-based tech giant, the dropping interest in mobile is impacting other products as well, including the Surface lineup that’s being replaced with alternative devices like Macs.
