How are the files scanned?
Kaspersky VirusDesk checks files the same way Kaspersky Lab's antivirus solutions do, using the same antivirus and reputation database. It notifies you about known threats and displays detailed information about them. The website does not disinfect the files.

Kaspersky VirusDesk submits the result:

The file is safe. No threats have been detected. The file is safe to use, keep and send.
The file is infected. A threat has been detected in the file. The file is unsafe to use, keep and send.
The file is suspicious. The file contains a program that may pose a threat in some cases. The file is unsafe to use, keep and send.
If the file is corrupted, contains errors or is protected with a password, Kaspersky VirusDesk will notify you.

This website service can scan files up to 50MB in size. If you have more than one file you would like to scan, combine them into a .zip file and then password protect the file with the word "infected" or "virus".  What is the reputation of the link?
Kaspersky VirusDesk checks the reputation of the link according to the Kaspersky Security Network reputation database and submits the result:

Poor reputation. The link contains malicious or phishing content. Following this link may harm your device or data.
Good reputation. The link contains no malicious or phishing content. It is included in the Parental Control categories of Kaspersky Lab antivirus solutions.
Reputation unknown. The Kaspersky Security Network database has insufficient information for identifying the link reputation as good or poor.
Kaspersky VirusDesk does not check the content of websites (scripts, text, or multimedia files) and redirections. The reputation of the link does not reflect the current state of its content.  What does it mean to report a new threat or a false detection?
If you disagree with the result of the scan, you can send the file or link to the Antivirus Lab for further analysis.

If you are sure that the file or link is safe, but Kaspersky Lab still detects a threat, please inform us. Such cases are called false detection.  © Kaspersky Lab, 2017
