Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4093105

Quote:Fall Creators Update systems getting large update

Microsoft has just released another cumulative update for Windows 10, and this time only systems running the Fall Creators Update (version 1709) are getting it.

KB4093105 bumps the OS version number to 16299.402 and comes with a huge changelog, which you can read in full in the box after the jump.

Of particular importance for home users is a fix for Skype and Xbox and correcting a bug causing the apps to stop working, as well as improvements for the Office Chrome extension that was experiencing an issue forcing the browser to ask for credentials every once in a while instead of just once.

Additionally, Microsoft says that this cumulative update corrects a problem with the Start menu and making invisible apps to show up all of a sudden.

KB4093105 includes fixes for a bug “that might cause some users to experience unexpected panning or scrolling in certain apps while using the pen,” as Microsoft explains. This is an issue caused by the previous Fall Creators Update cumulative update KB4093112 released on April 10 as part of this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle.

One security update
Even though cumulative updates that aren’t published on Patch Tuesday typically don’t bring any security improvements, KB4093105 does address a potential memory leak caused by opening and closing a new web browser control, according to the official changelog.

There’s just one known issue in this update, and it’s the same that was acknowledged by Microsoft a long time ago when it published cumulative update KB4054517. Windows Update History might incorrectly report update KB4093105 as failed to install, and users need to manually check whether the patch deployed correctly or not.

To do this, just press the Win key + R, type winver, and look for the version number. If cumulative update KB4093105 installed correctly, the OS version number should be 16299.402.
