Balanced Power Plan included in the pack

AMD has just released new chipset drivers, including new software for the recently-launched Ryzen processors on Microsoft’s Windows 10.

Currently at version 17.10, the new drivers bring the Balanced Power Plan for the Ryzen series of processors, and this could have a substantial contribution to overall gaming performance with the new chip. But let’s take everything one at a time and see why the new drivers are so important.

First of all, AMD is releasing this pack for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10, both 32- and 64-bit versions, but the Ryzen drivers can only be installed on Windows 10.

This is a limitation that Microsoft and AMD themselves put in place, as the latest-generation processors only work on Windows 10 and systems running them cannot be updated if they are powered by any other Windows version.

Then, this new driver version includes the Balanced Power Plan, which is one essential tool for users who are getting Ryzen specifically for gaming.

The Balanced power plan
What the Balanced Power Plan does is to prevent CPU cores from entering idle mode, which in turn would lead to reduced performance especially when playing games. Until now, AMD recommended users to switch to the High Performance power plan in Windows 10 to avoid experiencing reduced performance, but with today’s driver update, this workaround is no longer needed.

“The new AMD Ryzen Balanced power plan reduces the timers and thresholds for P-state transitions to improve clockspeed ramping. This lets the hardware take full control more often. We’ve also disabled core parking for more wakeful cores,” AMD explains.

Benchmarks have shown that the new AMD Balanced power plan can provide results that are in line with the High Performance plan, so there is no need for any other tweaks after deploying these drivers.

Obviously, users are recommended to update as soon as possible, so go ahead and download the AMD Ryzen drivers version 17.10 right now from Softpedia.
