In August 2017, Microsoft launched its Surface Plus program, which offered customers flexible financing options and upgrades every 18 months. Today, the company has announced that it is shutting down the program, and that it will not be accepting any new enrollments. As spotted by On MSFT, Microsoft has posted a dedicated FAQ page, which states that financing plans for already-enrolled customers remain unchanged but that the program is effectively shutting down. While a reason for the sudden change has not be provided, the company says that it came to this conclusion after "much thought and consideration". The webpage also dives into details regarding upgrade options for current customers, but clarifies that no new entries will be accepted.
Surface Plus for Business still seems to be up and running but there's no word yet on whether it will receive the axe or not.
The Surface Plus program allowed individuals to purchase Surface devices at monthly charges, but with the program now being shuttered, there seems to be no alternative for these potential customers. We have reached out to Microsoft to find out the reason behind this decision and will provide an update if the company responds.
