Microsoft Claims Essential Windows 7 Feature Is Broken Down
#1
Quote:The recovery discs created on Windows 7 are broken

Microsoft has recently revealed that a previous monthly rollup shipped to Windows 7 broke down the recovery discs that were created on this operating system with the Backup and Restore feature bundled with Windows.

Windows 7 no longer receives updates since January 2020, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the world has already abandoned it.

Not at all, as Windows 7 continues to be running on a significant number of PCs out there, especially as it’s considered the last version of the traditional Windows experience.

Beginning with Windows 8, users are migrated to a modern Windows approach with a store and universal apps, so many believe that by sticking with Windows 7 they could retain the familiar look and feel for as long as possible.

Third-party software not affected

Microsoft explains in the tech support document published recently that the culprit this time is KB5013438, which was shipped to Windows 7 devices back in January.

“After installing the Windows updates released January 11, 2022 or later Windows versions on an affected version of Windows, recovery discs (CD or DVD) created by using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app in Control Panel might be unable to start. Recovery discs that were created by using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app on devices which have installed Windows updates released before January 11, 2022 are not affected by this issue and should start as expected,” the company explains.

Microsoft says it has already started the work on a fix, but at this point, there’s no ETA as to when it could be released.

The good news is that no third-party backup or recovery apps are believed to be affected by the glitch, so for what it’s worth, you can very well turn to an alternative solution until Microsoft comes up with a fix for devices still running Windows 7.
