The Mozilla Firefox 60 web browser is officially launching tomorrow, May 9, 2018, as the next ESR (Extended Support Release) series, but you can download it right now from Mozilla's FTP servers.
That's right, Mozilla just pushed the final Firefox 60 release on its download servers, and you can get it right now for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems, install it on your personal computer, and enjoy its cool new features and improvements that we've highlight for your in the next paragraphs.
Among some of the new features Mozilla implemented in the Firefox 60 release, we can mention enhanced camera privacy indicators that automatically turns off the light of your webcam when you disable video recording and turns it back on when you resume recording, and Web Authentication API support that enables the use of USB tokens to authenticate on websites.
Firefox 60 also adds a new policy engine that lets IT admins more easily deploy Firefox in enterprise environments by using a cross-platform JSON file or Windows Group Policy, Quantum CSS to render the web browser's user interface and make it a lot faster, new shortcut (F9) to access the Reader View on Windows, and support for the Occitan (oc) language.
On top of that, Firefox 60 also removes support for multiple keywords for the same URL from bookmarks. However, this can be overwritten by the user by using different POST data. Lastly, it is worth mentioning that Firefox 60 will be the next ESR series, which means that Mozilla will support it with updates for the next couple of years.
Mozilla Firefox 60 ESR launches officially on May 9, 2018
For web developers, Mozilla Firefox 60 adds improvements to Responsive Design Mode so that they have more explicit control over whether a certain web page should reload or not, as well as the ability to use promises within IndexedDB transactions. As expected several security vulnerabilities were fixed in this release as well.
Again, Mozilla will officially unveil the Firefox 60 ESR (Extended Support Release) web browser for all supported platforms, including GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows tomorrow, May 9, 2018, when Mac and Windows users will be able to update via the built-in OTA (Over-the-Air) update system.
