New data shows Windows 11 gains more traction
Jun 30, 2022 18:31 GMT  ·  By Bogdan Popa        Microsoft has recently completed the rollout of Windows 11, with the operating system therefore broadly available for all eligible devices.

This has unsurprisingly generated an increase in Windows 11 adoption numbers, with new data provided by AdDuplex revealing that Microsoft’s latest operating system is running on 23.1 percent of the Windows devices out there.

The figures are good news for Microsoft, but on the other hand, they also show that Windows 10 continues to be the king of the castle.

Windows 10 version 21H2, for instance, is holding a 38.2 percent market share, while the runner-up in the charts is none other than Windows 10 version 21H1 with 23.9 percent.

No less than 0.8 percent of the devices are running Windows 11 preview builds.

New Windows 11 feature update just around the corner
Microsoft is also getting ready to release a new Windows 11 feature update, as the company last month picked the RTM build for this highly anticipated launch.

As for Windows 10, this operating system version will continue to be supported until October 2025, with a new feature update, obviously coming with only minor improvements, also expected later this year.

“For customers who are using a PC that won’t upgrade, and who aren’t ready to transition to a new device, Windows 10 is the right choice. We will support Windows 10 through October 14, 2025 and we recently announced that the next feature update to Windows 10 is coming later this year. Whatever you decide, we are committed to supporting you and offering choice in your computing journey,” Microsoft said in the original Windows 11 announcement.

Windows 10 will therefore continue to be an operating system with a big market share given some devices aren’t allowed to upgrade, and at some level, it will also limit Windows 11’s growth opportunity as well.
