Skype continues to be a super-popular app, and given we’re still recommended to work from home for as much as possible, it’s pretty clear that solutions that allow us to stay in touch with others come in so handy.
Skype is one of these apps, so Microsoft is obviously very committed to improving it with new capabilities and additional polishing.
This week, the Redmond-based software giant rolled out another important update for Skype, bringing the app to version 8.79 on all supported platforms, including not only the desktop but also mobile.
What’s New in Skype 8.79
First and foremost, the new Skype version comes with a modernized call experience on Windows, Mac, Linux, and the Web. Microsoft says it has also added more options to customize the call view, while also introducing a series of additional fixes to make the app overall more stable and reliable.
The Android and iOS version of Skype has also received a modernized look, as well as extra fixes.
When it comes to the problems that have already been resolved, Microsoft names the following:
Skype crashing on ending calls
Notification action not opening chat on iPhone
The app was refreshing when attempting to add more funds, when the balance was not zero, on Windows
The rollout of the new Skype version is taking place gradually, so if you don’t see the update just yet, give it a few more days and then see if this build is then available for download.
Needless to say, this is the last update for the year for Skype, so the next updates for the app, both on the desktop and on mobile, would go live in January next year. Until then, just make sure you install version 8.79 and then submit feedback to Microsoft to help the company fix the reported problems before a new version gets the go-ahead.
