Twitter has started surveying users about this feature
Twitter is currently working on a series of new features, and according to a report this week, the company is also exploring an update that would essentially bring tweet reactions to users worldwide.
In other words, users would be able to react in various ways to a tweet that shows up in their timeline, and if you think you’ve heard of this feature before, you’re not wrong. Facebook already offers post reactions, and by the looks of things, Twitter wants its new feature to very similar to the one launched by its rival.
For the time being, Twitter is still in the phase where it just surveys users about the whole thing, and according to The Verge, the company is exploring emoji reactions such as like, funny, interesting, sad, awesome, support, and angry.
Of course, more could be added at a later time or these ones could be further tweaked to make more sense for users out there.
Still in early stages
One interesting feature that’s currently being worked on includes a dislike feature. In other words, if someone doesn’t like a specific tweet, they could just hit the dislike button, though it’s not yet clear if this would also have any effect on the tweet or not.
But on the other hand, it looks like Twitter wants to hear from users what they feel about a downvote button on the service, so at the first glance, the company might have in mind an approach similar to the one currently available on reddit.
Reddit users are allowed to downvote posts and thus reduce their visibility, eventually preventing them from reaching the front page of a subreddit. Again, it’s not yet clear if Twitter is planning any impact on a tweet that would receive multiple dislikes or downvotes, as the whole thing is still in the early stages.
