More information on the next Galaxy now available

We’re only a few days away from the public unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and leaks keep coming to provide us with a closer look at the South Korean company’s new flagship phone.

And a new set of photos plus a hands-on video that reached the web today via AndroidAuthority reveal the upcoming Galaxy model in all its glory, confirming some of the things that we’ve already heard about, while also revealing a few new interesting details.

First of all, the Galaxy S7 will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow from the very beginning, so you’ll benefit from all the updates available in this version currently available on the Nexus 6P and rolling out to other Android devices as we speak.

Nope, you won’t get USB Type-C

Recent rumors claimed that the S7 could be waterproof, but this new report claims that it could be either IP67 or IP68, which means that you might be able to use the phone in light rain, but you can’t obviously throw it in the pool.

Additionally, the device will feature a 12-megapixel camera, plus a 2,800 mAh battery that should easily get you through the day. And what’s more, it’ll include microSD card support for additional storage space, with Samsung planning to offer just two models, with 32GB or 64GB of built-in storage. microSD card support could thus return to the Galaxy lineup, after being removed from the previous model.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 will launch with a microUSB charging port instead of the newer and faster USB Type-C and this is certainly an unexpected decision. USB Type-C is getting widely adopted in the mobile business thanks to the advantages that it brings (including faster charging and transfer speed), so going for microUSB for a new handset is at least a questionable decision.

The video below shows the first hands-on experience with the Galaxy S, but only little can be observed for the moment. You get the typical Android experience for a Samsung device, with Flipboard Briefing enabled by default and Google Apps pre-installed.

The device is expected to see daylight on February 21, with sales very likely to begin early next month.
