For years, India has been the infamous country with hundreds of rapes annually. According to the 2013 annual report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in India in the previous year, there were 24923 cases of rapes! This year, the NCRB has already announced a larger number for the previous year: almost 39,000. This means that in India, 100 women are dying each day or on average one every 15 minutes.
Last week, in this oppressed violence against women in the country, the public had a small moment of triumph. Five suspects were arrested in connection with the violent rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the western part of the country, police said.
The girl was collectively raped and strangled, her head was hurt in an ax during her lifetime and her eyes were plucked out. Although there is no denomination, Muslims are the majority in this state. There are almost 200 million of them all over India. A cruel crime was committed by a 14-year-old half brother and two of his friends 'in the presence and at the instigation of a stepmother,' according to findings of the police, which claims that violence was the result of a family dispute.
The re-marriage of the father of the murdered girl led to a dispute between the first and the second wife. The mutilated body was found near the city of Uri on September 2, in the forest near her home. Her disappearance was reported by her father on August 23.
In April, another collective rape and murder of an eight-year-old Muslim girl in Jammu and Kashmir provoked religious tensions and provoked widespread protests in the province which threatens further destabilization of the already turbulent region. For these lands, a bloody conflict has been going on since the end of the British rule. Since 1948, Kashmir has been divided between India (Kashmir Basin) and Pakistan (Azad Jammu and Kashmir). Three wars have been fought since then, not counting many terrorist attacks and pacifications.
But not only Muslims are raping. In July, it turned out that the 11-year-old girl from Chennai was raped by 17 men - Hindus who worked in the building where she lived.
