iOS 14.5 Beta 7 Now Available for Download
A new version of iOS is now up for grabs for developers
Apr 7, 2021 17:49 GMT  ·  By Bogdan Popa  ·

Apple has just released a new beta build of iOS 14.5 for developers as we approach the moment when the company would finally publish the production build of this update.

iOS 14.5 beta 7 is only available for developers, but as per the typical release cycle, it should go live for public testers rather sooner than later. I personally expect iOS 14.5 beta 7 to become available for public testers as soon as tomorrow or Friday.

No big changes seem to be part of this new beta, and this makes total sense. We’re already in an advanced development stage for this new version of iOS, so Apple has focused mostly on fixing bugs and refining the overall performance of the update before it lands on all iPhones out there.
What’s new in iOS 14.5

The upcoming iOS 14.5 will introduce several new features, and one of the most important is the support for unlocking an iPhone with an Apple Watch.

The whole thing comes a little bit later, but it’s still more than welcome, as it makes it possible to unlock an iPhone protected with Face ID even if you’re wearing a mask.

Worth knowing, however, is that an iPhone unlocked this way can’t be used for making payments with Apple Pay, as Apple would still require the user to enter the passcode or complete a scan with Face ID.

In addition, iOS 14.5 would also introduce a battery recalibration feature to get more accurate information in the battery health section, as well as new capabilities for Apple Maps, which will now feature an incident reporting option similar to the one available in Google’s Waze.

If everything goes according to the plan, I expect iOS 14.5 to get the go-ahead for all supported iPhones as soon as this month.
