Fileside is a modern multi-pane file manager with an innovative layout system.

The main issue that Fileside addresses is the constant need to open multiple windows, navigate to the locations you need in each one, then painstakingly resize and arrange them side-by-side to start moving files around.

With Fileside, you can add as many panes as you like, horizontally and vertically, navigate to the locations that make sense for the task at hand – once – and then save the layout for immediate access later on.

It also comes with features like search, full undo, previews, favourites, advanced folder merging, compression/extraction of archives etc.

Expired giveaway V1.6.2 and additional info.

Release notes 1.8.4

Another 1.8 follow-up, with a fix for Preserve dates on copy not preserving the Created timestamp, plus some usability tweaks and improvements around listing updates and focus handling.

Improvements
Preserve Created date too when the Preserve dates on copy option is enabled.
Dim colours when the application window does not have focus.
Always display available columns in the pane header context menu in the same order.
Allow refreshing panes that have an inline error, e.g. because the folder it’s pointing to is missing.
Only show the pane spinner for user-initiated actions, like navigation or refresh, not for listing requests triggered programmatically.
Show a very subtle background twinkle as visual feedback when a pane’s listing was updated.
Bug fixes
Prevent files from opening if double-clicking them with a modifier key held.
Fix keyboard focus being lost in a pane after the spinner appeared.
Mac: Fix context menu action being sent to the wrong window if invoked in a non-focused window, while another Fileside window has the focus.
Windows: Fix mapped network drive paths (X:\Etc) being automatically converted into UNC paths.

Release notes 1.8.2
By Erik Jälevik on 12 April 2024
With the extra columns becoming available from 1.8.0, it led to more busywork setting up the columns just right for each pane. 1.8.2 addresses this by always copying over the existing column configuration when creating new panes. So that you only need to configure the columns for the first pane in a new layout, and then later panes will automatically get the same columns in the same order.

From the bug drawer, single-key shortcuts and sorting on the Size column got fixed.

Improvements
When adding new panes, use the same column configuration as in the current pane.
Make directory size cache take up less disk space.
Mac: Make Permissions display consistent with Flags display.
Mac: Add explanatory tooltips to Permissions column.
Bug fixes
Fix custom single-key shortcuts having no effect. These accidentally broke with 1.8.0.
Fix sort order when sorting on Size column and moving to a different folder.
Mac: Fix crash when adding a new pane while the Open Other… overlay is open in a subsequent pane.
