Sayan Sen · Jan 24, 2022 09:04 EST      Back at CES 2022, Lenovo announced a few of its upcoming business-class notebooks in the form of the ThinkPad Z series comprising the ThinkPad Z13 and the Z16. These laptops will be powered by AMD's Ryzen PRO 6000 series Rembrandt mobile APUs and that means the devices will come with Microsoft's Pluton security processor as AMD's Rembrandt APUs are the first such chips in the market to do so.

Regarding the Lenovo 2022 Z series, Microsoft's Partner Director of Enterprise and OS Security, David Weston said:

For the first time in a business laptop, the Microsoft Pluton security processor integrated on AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 Series processors in the ThinkPad Z13 and Z16 with Windows 11 will help protect user identity, data and apps from the chip to the cloud. The powerful combination of these technologies will help users augment their productivity and engagement with peace of mind from the sophisticated attacks of today and tomorrow.

Despite that, however, Lenovo, in a statement to The Register, has confirmed that its 2022 ThinkPad devices will not be carrying the Pluton processors in an enabled state, though customers will have the ability to enable Pluton if they desire to.

A Lenovo spokesperson offered the following statement to The Register:

Pluton will be disabled by default on 2022 Lenovo ThinkPad platforms. Specifically the Z13, Z16, T14, T16, T14s, P16s and X13 using AMD 6000-series processors. Customers will have the ability to enable Pluton themselves

So outside of the Z series, it looks like there will be a few other variants of the ThinkPad too which will come with the Microsoft Pluton processor turned off. We aren't sure what other OEMs plan to do with their Ryzen 6000 laptops regarding the new Pluton feature.
