Windows 10 October 2018 Update can be downloaded right now from Windows Update, as Microsoft has tried to make the manual updating system much more seamless.

Technically, all it takes is a simple check for updates for Windows 10 version 1809 to show up, and then the process is performed all automatically.

As you can easily figure out, this makes it possible for a Windows 10 system to update to the Windows 10 October 2018 Update effortlessly, but this method can only be used on one PC at a time.

Furthermore, it only allows for an update, and not for a clean install, so if you want to start from scratch, you’ll have to think of a different method to get the October update.

Fortunately, such a solution does exist, and it allows you to easily create a bootable USB drive that can then be used to clean-install Windows 10 October 2018 Update or to upgrade more systems without an Internet connection to this new release.

Microsoft itself has created a pretty seamless way to build this bootable USB flash drive, and it all comes down to the Media Creation Tool that many people have already used.

How to create the bootable USB drive
Basically, the whole thing relies on a several-step wizard. The first step involves downloading the latest version of the Media Creation Tool – note that this most recent build is required because it has been specifically updated to download Windows 10 version 1809.

Once it’s downloaded, launch the Media Creation Tool and click Accept when you are presented with the license terms. You’ll be then asked to choose what you want to do with the app, with two options displays: upgrade the local computer that you’re currently using or create removable media which can be used for updating other PCs or performing a clean install.

Select the option that reads “Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC.”

The next step requires you to configure the language, edition, and architecture of the Windows 10 version that you need to copy to the USB drive. If you want to use the same settings as on the PC you’re using, just check the option that reads “Use the recommended options for this PC.” Click next to advance.

Media Creation Tool then prompts you to choose the media you want to use, and this time there are two options: a USB removable drive or an ISO file – the ISO image lets you store a Windows 10 image on the local drives, which can then be used to create other bootable drives or install the OS in a virtual machine.

Choose the option that reads “USB flash drive” and then insert the drive into the USB port of your device.

Note that the USB drive needs to be at least 8GB. The disk will be formatted and you’re going to lose all the data that’s stored on them, so make sure that you create a backup before anything else.
