Apple has officially launched iTunes for Windows 10, after Microsoft previously announced it back at last year’s Build developer conference.

iTunes was originally projected to land in the Microsoft Store before the end of 2017, but Apple needed more time to complete development despite evidence hinting at an imminent launch.

Just as expected, the Microsoft Store version of iTunes is identical to the desktop sibling and comes with the same features and UI, so users won’t feel any difference when launching it.

iTunes is Apple’s first app for Windows 10 and it’ll be interesting to see if the company delivers updates at the same pace as for the desktop version. Several other large companies joined the Windows 10 app push but eventually abandoned their apps due to the platform not generating enough excitement among users and developers alike.
"Windows 10 Fall Creators Update required"

On the other hand, bringing iTunes to the Microsoft Store also helps Apple go after users of Windows 10 with S Mode, a special version of the operating system that blocks the installation of Win32 software. S Mode was developed to restrict users to the Microsoft Store, which guarantees increased security because all apps are verified by the software giant and malware thus can’t compromise systems.

Furthermore, Windows 10 S, in the meantime renamed to Windows 10 with S Mode, was specifically aimed at the education sector, which is also one of the main targets for Apple. It’s well-known that educators and students alike use iPhones, and if these customers also purchase devices running Windows 10 with S Mode enabled, a Microsoft Store version of iTunes is the only way to sync their smartphones and create backups.

You can download iTunes for Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store using this link. The app requires Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709) and newer.
