Hoffman Construction Reports Hack of Self-Insured Health Plan Data
#1
Two construction and engineering companies, Hoffmann Construction and POWER Engineers, have reported hacks and data security breaches.

On Feb. 12, Hoffmann Construction reported it discovered in December that an unauthorized individual may have accessed information relating to its self-insured health plan. The breach occurred between July 31, 2020 and August 4, 2020 and included employee names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and benefits information.

Hoffman immediately disabled the affected systems, the company reported, and took steps to secure its network and investigate. The company apologized for inconvenience caused by the incident and said there is no indication that any information was actually viewed or misused.

Last summer POWER Engineers discovered suspicious activity related to its email system, and later determined that there was unauthorized access to certain email accounts between December 19, 2010 and March 3, 2020, according to a document posted on the state of Montana website that compiles data breach and cybersecurity incidents.

“We began reviewing the affected accounts to determine what, if any, sensitive information was contained within them,” the company subsequently said in letters to employees with affected accounts.
