Microsoft to Release New Windows 10 Cumulative Updates

Quote:The April 2020 Patch Tuesday is just around the corner

Microsoft is projected to launch new Windows 10 cumulative updates tomorrow as part of this month’s April 2020 Patch Tuesday cycle.

As usual, all Windows 10 versions will get updates, albeit it’s important to note that older releases are no longer supported and only Enterprise and Education SKUs are serviced. If you are running the latest version of Windows 10, which is version 1909, or November 2019 Update, you’re getting security updates regardless of the SKU running on your device.

Cumulative updates are particularly important for Windows 10 devices, as they include all the previously-released fixes. In most of the cases, they are supposed to resolve both security issues and non-security bugs, but the Patch Tuesday rollout is specifically aimed at addressing vulnerabilities in the first place.

Installing the latest cumulative updates

This month’s Patch Tuesday updates, however, are particularly important for Windows 10 users, not necessarily because of the improvements they bring, but also from a reliability perspective.

As many found out the hard way, installing the latest cumulative updates doesn’t always work as expected, and the whole thing ends up causing various issues on Windows 10 issues.

In many cases, cumulative updates just failed to install, pushing devices into an infinite reboot loop, as they were re-offered the same updates again and again when booting back to the desktop.

Given most people are working remotely these days because of obvious reasons, such issues are without a doubt something that must be avoided by all means, as fixing entire fleets of devices that could be broken down by a botched update is a lot harder.

We’ll keep an eye on the updates going live this month and let you know about what’s included once the rollout starts tomorrow. The best thing you can do right now is create a backup of your data to make sure you can restore the system if something goes wrong.
