Fow what I understood, it works this way:
-with the initial payment, you have access to the software plus 1-year of free updates maintenance
-you can opt out or in to renew maintenance before the end of the free 1-year
-if you want, you can not renew maintenance, and the software will continue to work indefinitely (but if they make substiantal changes you should probably buy another year of maintenance)
-the maintenance can be renewed at any time
-in the maintenance there are included only updates, not upgrades, that require to buy a discounted upgrade license
This is my experience based on the conversation with the support and the visite on their website

Good. Then it is lifetime license with 1 year of updates. It is strange that they don't state clearly that.
