Microsoft confirms issue on 3 drives, says fix is on its way

Microsoft has recently acknowledged a Windows 10 April 2018 Update bug hitting Intel SSDs, and now it looks like more solid state disk drives might experience issues after systems are upgraded to the new Windows 10 version.

This time, the company says that a number of PCs that are equipped with Toshiba SSDs could see lower battery life after installing Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

Microsoft and Toshiba are currently working to identify the systems that might be impacted in order to block the upgrade to the new OS version. A fix is already in the works and should land with the next Patch Tuesday update cycle in June.

Fix coming on June 12
Until now, Microsoft says it’s aware that three different Toshiba SSD models are hitting these problems, namely Toshiba XG4 Series, Toshiba XG5 Series, and Toshiba BG3 Series. It’s not yet known if the same issue might affect other SSD models from Toshiba or not.

“After upgrading to Window 10 April 2018 Update, select devices with Toshiba XG4 Series, Toshiba XG5 Series or Toshiba BG3 Series solid state disk (SSD) drives may exhibit lower battery life,” Microsoft says.

“Microsoft is working with OEM partners and Toshiba to identify and block devices with Toshiba XG5 Series or Toshiba BG3 Series solid state disk (SSD) from installing the April 2018 Update due to a known incompatibility that may cause battery performance issues.”

The next Patch Tuesday rollout begins on June 12, so customers whose devices are impacted by this bug need to wait one more month for a fix.

In the meantime, Microsoft says that these users can return to their previous Windows 10 version from the Settings app. It’s believed no workaround is available right now, so unless you can wait for a fix, follow these steps to remove the April 2018 Update and downgrade your device.
